Over the past few weeks—and continuing until the end of October—the Reggio Emilia-based company has been in the studio with Mauro Bigonzetti working on The Nutcracker, a new production by LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura, co-produced with MM Contemporary Dance Company and in production partnership with the Fondazione Teatro Comunale di Modena.

Former Artistic Director of Aterballetto and the Corps de Ballet of Teatro alla Scala, Bigonzetti offers a fresh interpretation of the timeless fairy tale of The Nutcracker, set to Čajkovskij’s celebrated score, performed live by the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana conducted by Philippe Béran.

This captivating ballet retraces the stories of Drosselmeier and Clara, inviting the audience to surrender to the world of their own imagination. Through a visionary stage design featuring 3D architectural projections, the work plays with the boundaries between reality and fantasy, the visible and the subconscious.

The world premiere will take place at LAC Lugano on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. (additional performances on December 20 and 21).
